Genesis Mission: eleven companies pledge $2.4 billion worth of computing power and AI tools to US public research

At the ‘Science: A New Golden Age’ summit, the White House unveiled a package worth over $6 billion, a large proportion of which consists of computing resources provided by Nvidia, AMD, OpenAI, Anthropic and Google.

On October 8 in Washington, the Trump administration convened the "Science: A New Golden Age" summit to announce more than $6 billion in scientific initiatives. The heart of the system is the Genesis Mission, the federal program that aims to mobilize AI, quantum computing and supercomputers to accelerate discovery and double the productivity of American research in ten years.

Who gives what

Eleven companies have committed $2.4 billion: Nvidia for $1 billion, AMD for $500 million, OpenAI for $200 million, Anthropic and Google for $150 million each, AMP and Emerald AI for $100 million each, and AWS, Armada, Crusoe and Micron for $50 million each. These are mainly compute credits, access to the cloud and models, discounts and training, intended for more than fifteen federal agencies, and not direct budget expenditures.

On the public side, the Department of Energy has allocated $159 million to twelve new Phase II projects of the Genesis Mission, added $96 million for early-career researchers and launched a doctoral fellowship program. The Pentagon has announced $350 million for quantum computing applied to national security.
