Tom Brown, the Republican co-founder of Anthropic, who has become the company’s liaison with Washington and Elon Musk

According to the Wall Street Journal, in June Tom Brown broke the deadlock with the White House over two suspended models, paving the way for the $1.25 billion-a-month computing contract with SpaceX.

Based on a Wall Street Journal investigation, Tom Brown, co-founder of Anthropic and responsible for its computing power contracts, has established itself as the company's main interlocutor with the Trump administration and Elon Musk, while Anthropic is preparing for an introduction on the stock exchange that could value it beyond $2,000 billion. His particularity: he is a Republican, in a company often perceived as close to the Democrats.

Unlocking what Dario Amodei had failed

In June, the White House forced Anthropic to cut two of its models. According to the newspaper, it was Brown who put an end to this several weeks-long arm, convincing the Department of Commerce, the Pentagon and the White House that the safeguards had been strengthened. Earlier, in March, he had met Elon Musk at SpaceX to persuade him that Anthropic was less "woke" than he thought; this meeting prepared the contract for the rental of computing capacity at $1.25 billion per month signed then with SpaceX.

However, standardization is not complete: the Pentagon continues to regard Anthropic as a security risk and prohibits its subcontractors from using its tools.
