A pre-recorded experiment involving 759 students shows that, after two preparatory sessions with a voice-based AI interlocutor, spontaneous participation in class increases significantly.
Studies of AI learning tools focus mainly on exam scores, with contrasting results. Another indicator was the behaviour of students during the course itself.
A field experience of 759 students
The pre-recorded experience involved 759 MBA students in 10 groups of the same course. Each was drawn by lot to prepare two of the ten sessions with a vocal discussion partner designed for the occasion. After these two uses, students spoke spontaneously about 31% more often in subsequent sessions.
Those who used the tool most say they feel more comfortable to intervene and feel like they're learning more, without gaining concentration or motivation. For the authors, training several times with an IA speaker in the oral room can enhance participation in the discussions, an important intermediate stage of learning.
