Anthropic recruits former judge Tino Cuéllar to lead its global diplomacy

Anthropic creates a position of director of international affairs and appoints Mariano-Florentino Cuéllar, former justice of the Supreme Court of California.

Anthropic has appointed Mariano-Florentino "Tino" Cuéllar to the newly created position of Chief Global Affairs Officer, in charge of public policy and government relations for the company. Cuéllar most recently chaired the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and served as a justice on the California Supreme Court, after a career that took him to the White House under three successive administrations.

He was already linked to Anthropic as a member of its "Long-Term Benefit Trust" since January 2026, a role he is leaving to join the company full-time. He will report directly to Daniela Amodei, President of Anthropic, and is taking a leave of absence from her position as a professor at Stanford Law School to take up this new role.
