TypeSafe AI, creator of the Jev model, would raise $870 million to $7.5 billion from a16z

Less than a month after coming out of the shadows, the start-up of Diogo Almeida, formerly of OpenAI, has reportedly completed a round led by Andreessen Horowitz, with Sequoia, according to Bloomberg.

According to Bloomberg, TypeSafe AI has raised about $870 million at a valuation of $7.5 billion, in a round led by Andreessen Horowitz in which Sequoia is also participating. The closing date was not specified. The company only emerged from the shadows on September 15, with a $40 million seed round led by DCVC and the launch of Jev.

A model that responds with decisions, not text

Jev doesn't write prose: he receives the state of an application and returns a constrained response (a choice, a score, a probability) that the software can use directly. TypeSafe talks about "System One Model" and says it trained it through a method called RLCD, reinforcement learning aimed at calibrated decisions. Its CEO, Diogo Almeida, worked at OpenAI on InstructGPT before founding the company.

The advanced adoption figures (more than a million users in a few days, about a third of the Fortune 500 companies) come from the company itself, without a published list of customers. The speed and cost gains displayed compared to the large language models also relate to tasks chosen by TypeSafe.
