Atlassian and OpenAI are expanding their partnership: GPT-6 models to power agents in Jira, Confluence and Rovo

The models in the GPT-6 family will power Atlassian’s agents, which are underpinned by the Teamwork Graph. MCP connectors also link Jira and Confluence to ChatGPT and Codex.

Atlassian and OpenAI announced on October 6, 2026, the expansion of a collaboration that began in 2023. OpenAI's cutting-edge models, including those of the GPT-6 family and the GPT-5.6 series, will run the agents of the Atlassian platform and its Rovo assistant, integrated with Jira and Confluence.

The interest put forward is the Teamwork Graph, Atlassian's context layer that connects teams, projects, documents and decisions. Combined with OpenAI's templates, it should allow an agent to attach a ticket to the documentation that explains it, rather than responding generically.

MCP connectors in both directions

The partnership also introduces Atlassian MCP Server connectors, which circulate data between ChatGPT, Codex and Atlassian's tools, allowing a developer to find the context of a project without switching applications. Internally, Atlassian claims to have more than 3,000 Codex developers and an expanded deployment of ChatGPT Enterprise.
