Google’s AI Edge team is launching a competitor to Granola that transcribes and summarises meetings on Macs without an internet connection, using EmbeddingGemma 2 and a Gemma 4 assistant.
After an experimental dictation tool based on local models, released in April, Google's AI Edge team publishes Google AI Edge Foresight, a macOS application for taking meeting notes. Optimized for Apple Silicon chips, it can run without any connection: the capture is based on EmbeddingGemma 2, a model of 740 million parameters executed on the machine, and works with all video conferencing apps as for face-to-face meetings.

The interface uses the principle popularized by Granola: a screen shared between the user's abbreviated notes and those generated by AI. You can consult the complete transcript or interview a motorized assistant by Gemma 4. The app also accepts documents (PDF, Google Docs, Office files, Markdown, text, web favorites) to build a knowledge base; During the meeting, she may direct relevant information from these documents on-line.
The IA note-takers market is saturated — Wispr and Calendly launched theirs in recent months, and Superhuman bought Fathom in September. Foresight is mostly like a showcase of offline Gemma models, although Google could eventually offer a general audience version backed by Gemini and the cloud.
