Surface RTX Spark Dev Box: Microsoft’s AI mini-PC for developers is available for pre-order at $5,999

With 128 GB of unified memory and Nvidia’s RTX Spark platform, the machine is designed to run models with over 120 billion parameters locally. Deliveries in November.

Microsoft has opened pre-orders for the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, a mini-PC for developers who want to run AI locally. Priced at around $6,000, it is due to ship in November. It costs more than the DGX Spark launched by Nvidia last year, a discrepancy that is partly explained by the shortage of RAM.

The machine is based on Nvidia's RTX Spark platform, with Arm architecture, with 128 GB of unified memory and a thermal envelope of 100 watts. Its flat anodized aluminum housing, printed in 3D, also serves as a heatsink. Microsoft presents it as capable of loading models exceeding 120 billion parameters, to test models, prototype agents or run code assistants without going through the cloud.

Attached to the Project Zenith program, it comes with an installation of Windows 11 Pro prepared for development: Visual Studio Code, Git, GitHub CLI, GitHub Copilot, WSL, Python and Node are pre-installed. It was announced at the same time as the Surface Laptop Ultra.
