From the end of October, OpenAI will be trialling an illustrated advertising format in the US – displayed whilst ChatGPT generates an image – and is enhancing its analytics tools for advertisers.
OpenAI is expanding advertising in ChatGPT with a new visual format. The first trials will start later in October in the United States, with a select group of advertisers, and will target a specific moment: waiting while an image is being generated. Ads can show a product in a situation, a source of inspiration or the experience associated with a service. OpenAI assures that they will be marked as such, distinct from the image produced, and that they do not influence the assistant's responses.
Measuring conversions
The format comes with attribution tools: integrations with Hightouch, Tealium, and LiveRamp for conversion data, and partnerships with AppsFlyer, Adjust, Branch, or Kochava. DoubleVerify and Integral Ad Science will check for placement compatibility with brand image, without access to private conversations, according to OpenAI. Safeguards must prevent ads from being displayed in sensitive or emotionally fragile exchanges.
The stakes are financial: ChatGPT now claims 1.2 billion weekly users, the vast majority of whom do not pay a subscription.
