Designed for workspaces managed by educational institutions, these extensions cover primary and secondary education, higher education and students.
OpenAI introduced at the beginning of August 2026 three educational extensions, accessible from ChatGPT Work and Codex in the workplaces administered by the institutions: one for primary and secondary teachers, one for higher education teachers, one for students. Each is based on the course materials and contexts validated by the institution.
The technical bias is to reduce the effort of formulation. Rather than requiring the user to develop instructions, each extension brings together applications, role-specific skills, instructions and routine workflows around the documents that the user has selected. Teachers produce differentiated materials, syllabus or training evaluations; Students have guided support and revision aids.
OpenAI presents the set as a shift of AI from the status of oracle to that of a participant in a work over time: extensions require the user to define its objectives, select its sources and critically examine what the model produces. The distribution takes place through ChatGPT Edu, which provides institutions with spaces managed with guarantees of confidentiality and administration, and through the ChatGPT for Teachers system deployed to school districts.
