OpenHand Sidekick, an assistant that follows the teleconsultation to explain medical jargon to the patient

The desktop app defines medical terms in real time, suggests questions to ask your doctor and provides a summary of the next steps to take after the call.

The young OpenHand shoot opens free early access Sidekick, a teleconsultation companion for Mac and Windows. Once activated by the patient, it follows the exchange with the physician, explains the medical terms as the conversation unfolds and proposes relevant questions while it is still time to ask them.

A summary rather than notes

At the end of the consultation, the tool brings together the highlights, definitions and steps to be followed in a simple language summary, so that the patient can focus on the exchange instead of taking notes. Sidekick works on the computer used for the video call, regardless of the video conferencing platform; A mobile application, which will also cover consultations in practice, is announced as the next step.

OpenHand insists that it is not a medical advice tool: it does not make any diagnosis or prescribe anything. The company presents itself as a co-pilot of appointment preparation and navigation in health costs, and plans to integrate its medical invoice analysis module into its future mobile application.
