‘Super Intelligence Force’: Trump appoints Jay Clayton, Director of Intelligence, as AI tsar

The Director of National Intelligence will head a White House task force tasked with producing a report within 120 days on the risks posed by AI and the role of the federal government.

Donald Trump has appointed Jay Clayton, current National Intelligence Director, as the new head of federal artificial intelligence policy. Former president of the SEC during most of Trump's first term, then federal prosecutor in Manhattan, he will retain his functions in intelligence in parallel with this new role.

A report expected within 120 days

Jay Clayton will lead a cell called Super Intelligence Force, the president preferring the term super intelligence to AI. It will have 120 days to assess the risks and opportunities of technology and then recommend the federal government's scope of action. Andrew Ferguson, President of the FTC, Emil Michael, Technical Director of the Defence Department, and Scott Kupor, head of the Office of Personnel Management will also be present. The group will report directly to the President and his Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles.

The appointment came at a time when several industry leaders called for a slowdown in the development of the most advanced models, after a series of hacks led by IA agents out of control. However, the presidential message promises not to curb the industry, but to accompany and monitor it.
