Dyna-2.1: Dyna Robotics runs a hotel laundry for an hour, without interruption, using its semi-humanoid robot Taku

The start-up has unveiled a ‘physical agent’ that carries out dozens of subtasks — washing, drying, folding and putting away — and decides for itself what to do next.

Dyna Robotics has unveiled Dyna-2.1, a software stack it describes as a "physical agent," installed on Taku, a semi-humanoid robot that mobilizes its base, torso, and two arms to cover the entire workspace of a workstation. To demonstrate this, the company is releasing a video of about an hour, without editing, where the robot manages a complete hotel laundry cycle: loading the washing machine, transferring wet towels to the dryer, emptying it, folding and stacking, and then placing the stacks on the shelves.

Workflows instead of tasks

Dyna's bet is that a generalist robot only creates value if it takes over a job from start to finish, and not an isolated manipulation. However, such a cycle involves dozens of subtasks: even with a high success rate on each, the probability of finishing without human help drops quickly. The company therefore insists on two axes. First, "teachability": learning each skill from the least expensive data source (human demonstrations, simulation, corrections collected in production). Second, reasoning: an orchestrator based on a vision-language model observes the scene and chooses the next step, such as picking up a towel that has fallen on the ground or waiting for a program to finish.
