GPT-Synopsys: OpenAI and Synopsys Launch Model that Drives Chip Design Tools

The result of a multi-year agreement, GPT-Synopsys is trained to handle Synopsys' EDA software like an engineer, to iterate on the consumption, performance and surface area of the chips.

OpenAI and Synopsys announced September 30th GPT-Synopsys, a model specialized in semiconductor design. Rather than simply answering questions, he is trained to use Synopsys' Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools himself: start processing, interpret results, and iterate until the goals of consumption, performance, surface, timing and physical implantation are met, before being reviewed by an engineer.

The agreement is multi-year: OpenAI obtains a license on Synopsys' EDA tools to develop the model, and both companies share research, commercialization and revenue. GPT-Synopsys will operate on OpenAI's infrastructure, integrate with Synopsys.ai and the Autopilot platform, and be able to interact with customer agent systems. Client design data, encrypted, will not be used for training.

Initial projects are underway with major flea manufacturers; No date of general availability was given. For OpenAI, the issue is also internal: putting AI at the service of the design of the hardware that makes it run.
