Launched in beta in July, Anthropic’s offering for federal and state government agencies is now available in a FedRAMP High-certified environment.
Anthropic announced on September 30 the general availability of Claude for Government, following a public beta launched in July. The service, hosted in a FedRAMP High authorized environment, is aimed at both federal and state agencies and provides access to Claude's code and agent features, with the added bonus of early access to Claude Code on the command line and Claude for Microsoft 365.
The business model contrasts with the usual licenses: no fees per user, but prepayment in fixed tranches with a ceiling that cannot be exceeded, to avoid budget slippage. On the administration side, the offer includes the distribution of expenses between departments, audit logs, double validation for sensitive operations, single sign-on via the agency's identity provider and group synchronization by SCIM.
Anthropic insists on a detail that counts for data sovereignty: the history of conversations remains stored locally, on the workstation managed by the agency. The targeted uses range from common administrative tasks, via the skills and projects of the desktop application, to the modernization of old software with Claude Code.
