OpenAI launches ‘dots’: GPT-6 Astra agents that run continuously, each on its own computer in the cloud

Unveiled at DevDay 2026, the dots run 24 hours a day on a dedicated virtual machine, connected to more than 4,000 applications. The first one is included in Pro and Business Premium, but not in Europe for Pro subscribers.

OpenAI took advantage of its DevDay 2026, on September 29 in San Francisco, to unveil the dots, agents based on GPT-6 Astra that never stop. Each has its own computer in the cloud, separate from the user's machine until the user explicitly connects it. The agent can connect to more than 4,000 applications via plugins, conduct read-only background searches, remember the owner's preferences and pursue goals without waiting for instructions. It can be accessed from ChatGPT (computer, web, mobile), Slack or Teams, with SMS being announced for later.

Safeguards and availability

Actions that affect an account — sending, purchasing, changing passwords — go through automatic verification and can be subject to user approval, who sets their own rules. Entered credentials are not exposed to the template, and a monitoring system can suspend an agent along the way. The first dot is included at no extra charge in the Pro and Business Premium plans; Enterprise, Edu, and health plans have access to it in beta. Pro subscribers in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom are excluded at launch.

OpenAI also presented GPT-6.1 Sol, described as close to Astra in capacity for a fifth of its cost in tokens, as well as specialized dots (purchasing, billing, support) offered as a pilot to companies.
