Collision with a Nissan Murano in Las Vegas on September 25, a hospital driver, cause not established — and the limit of 100 vehicles lifted on the same day.
A driverless Zoox robotaxi and a Nissan Murano collided on Friday, September 25 on Las Vegas Boulevard South, near Four Seasons Drive. The driver of the Murano was hospitalized; his condition has not been communicated. The Nevada Highway Patrol has closed lanes while the findings are being made and the cause of the collision has not been established.
The coincidence of timing is what gives the incident its weight: September 25 was also the day the Nevada Transportation Authority's cap limiting Zoox to one hundred robotaxis in the state expired. Its lifting paves the way for a significantly larger fleet in Las Vegas, in a market where Tesla, Uber and Waymo have obtained authorizations.
Zoox no longer runs free demonstrations: the company has been charging for rides since August 2026 and operates under a federal exemption that allows it to put into service up to 2,500 vehicles per year without conventional driving controls. It has already experienced several collisions and two software recalls in 2025.
