Island raises $400 million and targets corporate agent checkpoint

The enterprise browser reaches 6.4 billion dollars in valuation, and shifts its argument from the security of the workstation to that of the agents.

Island announced on September 24 a $400 million Series F led by Evolution Equity Partners, joined by J.P. Morgan, Sequoia Capital and Georgian. The deal brings the publisher's valuation to $6.4 billion, up $1.8 billion from the previous round, and the total raised to about $1 billion.

The product remains the same: a browser designed for the enterprise, through which employees access cloud-hosted business applications, and which filters out booby-trapped pages, phishing attempts, and user-side manipulation.

It's the positioning that moves. Island now presents itself as the control plane for agents in companies: since agents access applications through the same web paths as humans, the browser becomes the natural place to observe and restrict what they do. This argument explains investors' appetite for a segment — the governance and security of AI in companies — that has become one of the most competitive of the year.
