Founded by a former Anthropic employee, the startup is launching a replacement for Slack in which agents join channels and take work without being mentioned.
Sara Du launched Ando on September 24 with $20 million raised in pre-seed and seed funding from Accel, Index Ventures, and Emergence. The gamble: Enterprise messaging tools treat agents as integrations or guest bots, as they become full-fledged members of the team.
At Ando, an agent has an identity and an inbox, appears in group messages, joins channels and can take on a task without having been explicitly asked. The platform is agnostic as to the origin of agents: those built with Codex, Claude or Devin connect to them indifferently.
The idea comes from the founder's previous experience, who worked on MCP servers at Anthropic and saw companies run into the limitations of Slack as soon as they wanted to insert agents into it other than on the surface. Ando presents itself as a complete replacement for internal messaging, not as an additional layer.
