Google is testing a Flipkart "Buy" button directly in Gemini and AI Mode in India

On a selection of product sheets, a button leads to a Flipkart payment tunnel without leaving the conversational interface. Generalization targeted for October.

Google is experimenting in India with adding a "Buy" button on some product sheets displayed by Gemini and AI Mode. Support opens a payment path in the colors of Flipkart, Walmart's Indian subsidiary, without the user leaving the assistant's interface. The test remains limited to a few categories, including smartphones and electronics.

The target announced is a wider deployment by October, as the holiday season approaches, which concentrates most of the country's online sales. Amazon products appear in the same responses, but without associated purchase button.

Google had presented earlier this year the Universal Commerce Protocol, an open standard supposed to allow agents to interact with merchants on the entire purchase route, including payment, via a tunnel hosted by Google. The Flipkart test deviates from this: it is the merchant who hosts the command validation. Google, which presents Flipkart as one of its partners on these so-called "agentic" experiences, maintains a financial relationship with the company in addition to the technical partnership.
