The new version of xAI’s image generator introduces a tool for area-specific editing, the ability to generate images from multiple reference images, and has climbed to second place in the Arena rankings.
On 7 August, xAI rolled out Grok Imagine Image 2.0 as the default ‘Quality’ mode on grok.com/imagine and in its iOS and Android apps. The update introduces a ‘magic wand’-style tool that modifies only the area selected by the user, precise segmentation of the elements to be modified, and a background removal feature with transparent export.
The model now ranks second in the two leading image generation leaderboards, thanks to improved adherence to instructions, clearer text, intelligent resizing and support for multiple reference images simultaneously.
